D: Good morning, Vicki.
V: Good morning, Don.
D: Did you ever feel rejected when you were a child?
V: Yes, many times. Why do you ask?
D: Today’s Power for Today author talks about the rejection that most kids and adults feel at one time.
V: He begins by talking about baseball games played on the “sandlot.”
D: A “sandlot” is usually a sandy piece of land, perfect for playing all kinds of outdoor games.
V: He says that when the teams are chosen, and one child is not picked, it can be very painful.
D: He uses the expression “cuts like a knife.” That describes how bad the pain can feel.
V: Then the author reminds us that people in the Bible did not think David was a good choice to become a King.
D: He says that we think that Samuel “exhausted all of the possibilities.”
V: “To exhaust the possibilities” means to run out of choices.
D: Yes. But while people look on the outside, God looks on the inside.
V: When God saw the insides of David, He knew that David had the qualities of a king.
D: Like the author says, I am glad that God “looks beyond” or looks past the externals and sees what is really inside of us.
V: Me too. That gives all of us great hope, and a great day.

단 : 잘 잤어요, 여보.
비키 : 안녕히 주무셨어요?
단 : 당신은 어린 시절, 거절, 거부당한 느낌을 가져본 적이 있었나요?
비키 : 그럼요, 아주 많았죠. 왜요?
단 : 오늘 본문의 작가는 대부분의 아이들과 어른들이 동시에 느끼는 거부, 거절에 대해 말하고 있어요.
비키 : 작가는 “sandlot” 야구 경기에 대해 말하면서 본문을 시작하고 있네요.
단 : “sandlot”은 거의 모래로 된 땅으로 모든 옥외 경기를 하는데 아주 완벽한 곳이죠.
비키 : 작가는 팀이 선발될 때, 한 아이만 뽑히지 않고 남으면 매우 고통스러운 것이 될 수 있다고 말하고 있어요.
단 : 그는 살을 에는 듯이 차다는 표현을 사용했네요. 그 고통이 얼마나 혹독한 것인지를 말해주고 있네요.
비키 : 그러면서 작가는 성경에 나오는 사람들이 다윗을 왕이 될 만한 사람으로 선택하지 않았다는 것을 말하고 있어요.
단 : 작가는 우리가 사무엘이 모든 가능성을 다 써버렸다고 생각했다고 말하고 있어요.
비키 : 모든 가능성을 다 써버렸다는 것은 선택의 여지가 없다는 것을 의미하죠.
단 : 그래요. 그러나 사람들은 외면을 보지만, 하나님은 내면을 보시죠.
비키 : 하나님께서 다윗의 내면을 보셨을 때, 다윗이 왕이 될 자질이 있다는 것을 아셨죠.
단 : 작가가 말한 것처럼, 전 하나님께서 외면을 보지 않으시고 우리의 내면에 있는 것들을 보신다는 사실이 정말 기뻐요.
비키 : 저도요. 그 사실은 우리 모두에게 큰 소망을 주죠. 멋진 하루 되세요.
단 : 당신도요. |
