D: Good morning, Vicki.
V: Good morning, Don.
D: Today's Power for Today is a little unusual.
V: How is that?
D: Well, the author uses many incomplete sentences. It is almost a poem about the crucifixion.
V: You're right. The author talks about the "spikes" (or large nails) that were driven by "callous" (or uncaring) men.
D: He also paints the mental image of the Lord on the cross, "languished limp" (which means completely weakened and lifeless).
V: He says that the Lord's "crowned head drooped."
D: A "crown" is worn on the head of a proud king, yet this king's head "droops" (or hangs down).
V: Later in the reading the author talks about "poignant insignificance."
D: That's a unique phrase. It is really two words that contradict or mean the opposite of each other.
V: Yes. "Poignant" means meaningful, and insignificance means "lacking in meaning."
D: I think what he is saying is that the crucifixion has two different meanings.
V: One meaning is the death of an unimportant Jew. But there is also the "fury" (or great anger) of hell.
D: He says that the "blazes" (or flames) are hotter than a "draft" (or wind) of a door that has been kicked in.
V: That is a powerful image. The death and resurrection of Jesus was the kicking in of the door of hell.
D: Let's not listen to Satan who wants to "denounce" (or criticize) Calvary just as "lore" (or an old story).
V: It really happened. Well, I know you will have a good one.
D: You will too. |

단: 잘 잤어요, 여보?
비키: 네, 당신도 잘 주무셨어요?
단: 오늘 본문은 좀 특이하네요.
비키: 어떻게요?
단: 작가는 불완전한 문장들을 많이 사용하고 있어요. 이건 마치 십자가에 못 박히신 예수에 대한 시 같아요.
비키: 맞아요. 작가는 비정한 사람들에 의해 박혀진 대못에 대해 이야기하고 있어요.
단: 작가는 십자가 위의 주님을 연상하여 ‘기운이 빠져 축 쳐져있다’ - 완전히 지쳐 죽게되었다 - 고 해요.
비키: 작가는 주님의 ‘관을 쓴 머리가 축 처졌다’고 해요.
단: 왕의 머리가 축 처졌을망정 자랑스런 왕의 머리에는 ‘왕관’이 씌어져있지요.
비키: 본문의 후반부에서 작가는 ‘의미 있는 사소함’에 대해 말하지요.
단: 참 독특한 문구에요. 그 두 단어는 서로 반대의미를 갖거나 모순되는 것이지요.
비키: 맞아요. ‘Poignant'는 의미심장한 것을 뜻하고, ’insignificant'는 사소한 것을 의미하지요.
단: 작가는 예수님께서 십자가에 못 박히신 데에는 두 가지 다른 뜻이 있다고 말하는 것 같군요.
비키: 한 가지 뜻은 사소한 유대인의 죽음이지요. 그러나 여기에는 지옥에 대한 격노함이 또한 있는 것이지요.
단: 작가는 불꽃이 부서진 문으로 들어오는 바람보다 더 뜨겁다고 해요.
비키: 그것참 힘이 넘치는 연상이네요. 예수님의 죽음과 부활은 지옥의 문을 차 부수는 것이었지요.
단: 갈보리 사건을 한낱 옛 이야기로 매도하려는 사탄에 귀를 기울여서는 안돼요.
비키: 그건 실제로 일어났던 일이지요. 좋은 하루 되세요.
단: 당신도요. |
